The MACC Phelan preschool started in 1995 to give parents a feeling for participation in the classroom before they committed to participating on a fixed schedule in the Discovery elementary school that was on the same campus at the time. The original program echoed the parent participation requirements set forth by the Discovery School.
Because MACC is an independent organization, we were able to establish parent requirements that are far less demanding than most other "participation" preschools while still achieving the goal of parent involvement on a regular basis.
Participating parents have an opportunity to observe, and be involved in, their children's education from the very beginning.
Parent participation options:
1. Participation Option with a
$20.00 per month tuition reduction for parents who assist in the
program as required.
a) Help in the classroom one day every six class meetings (1 day
every 3 weeks for the 3-year old program and 1 day every 2
weeks for the 4 year old program).
b) Attend the required Orientation before school opens. If you
enter after the year opens, you need to complete a
questionnaire about program policies and procedures.
c) Attend three (3) Parent Meetings during the school year
d) Work one (1) of the three Saturday workdays for two hours
e) Sign up for, and complete, one (1) Work Job during the school
year. Jobs include such things as making playdough, typing the
newsletter, ordering Scholastic books, etc.
2. Partial classroom participation (no tuition reduction).
a) Help in classroom 1 time per month.
b) Attend the required Orientation before school opens. If you
enter after the year opens, you need to complete a
questionnaire about program policies and procedures.
c) Attend one (1) of three (3) Parent Meetings during the school year
d) Work one (1) of the three Saturday workdays for two hours
e) Sign up for, and complete, one (1) Work Job during the school
year. Jobs include such things as making playdough, typing the
newsletter, ordering Scholastic books, etc.
3. Participation out of classroom (no tuition reduction)
a) Attend the required Orientation before school opens. If you
enter after the year opens, you need to complete a
questionnaire about program policies and procedures.
b) Attend one (1) of three (3) Parent Meetings during the school year
c) Work one (1) of the three Saturday workdays for two hours
d) Sign up for, and complete, one (1) Work Job during the school
year. Jobs include such things as making playdough, typing the
newsletter, ordering Scholastic books, etc.
