Preschool Programs at our Phelan Campus: Drop-off Program and Parent Participation Options

3-year-old Classes

Our classes for 3-year-olds concentrate on socialization, helping children develop good listening skills, a cooperative, sharing attitude, and fostering positive self-esteem. We also work on increasing large and small motor coordination.  Class sessions will provide exposure to language, music, movement, as well as many kinds of art and science experiments.  Colors, numbers, shapes, and the alphabet are introduced throughout the year.

This class is available on T/Th mornings.

PreKindergarten (4- and 5-year-olds)

This program focuses on play-based activities as well as kindergarten readiness.  We encourage independence and the development of responsibility, which are critical for kindergarten success. Our preKindergarten curriculum introduces phonics, handwriting basics, reading readiness, and number concepts.  It also offers activities in math, science, language, and the arts.  Our curriculum introduces the alphabet and handwriting basics using the "Handwriting Without Tears" program. The program was designed by an occupational therapist specifically for preschoolers.

In addition, we provide many field trips that range from theatrical plays to visits to the planetarium, the farm, the sports center, the Youth Science Institute as well as community visitors to extend our classroom program. Our overall program is designed to make the transition to kindergarten a successful step in a lifetime of learning.

This class is available on MWF mornings.

* Phelan classes offer a parent participation option with a monthly tuition reduction for parents who assist in the classroom on a rotating basis. The parent helps each sixth class meeting for the entire class period. Requirements during the year also include attendance at three evening parent education meetings ("Speaker Nights"), one workday, and a parent job.

Toddler Classes (18-months to 3-years)

In these classes, children enjoy songs, indoor and outdoor play, and simple art exploration in a warm, small group setting.  This is a great first classroom experience for your child.  Parent participation is required.  Activities are offered for older siblings for a modest fee.

Mommy & Me class is available on Tuesday afternoon.
