Preschool Teachers at our Eastus Campus

    Nancy Kamalski

Nancy taught for MACC Preschool from 1987 until 2001. Then she taught a K-1 class for the Moreland School District from 2001 until 2008. Now she is back teaching part-time for MACC leading the 3-year-olds class and serving as our Eastus Campus Site Director.

Nancy received her BA in Social Sciences from University of California, Berkeley. She earned her CA Elementary credential from San Fransisco State, and her special education credentials from San Jose State. She has taken early childhood education classes at West Valley and De Anza Colleges.

Nancy has lived in the west San Jose/Saratoga area since 1962; she and her husband, Ed, have lived in west San Jose since 1980. Their son, Chris, and daughter, Sara, attended Country Lane Elementary, Rogers Middle School, and Prospect High School. Sara also attended MACC Preschool.

Nancy enjoys reading, gardening, going to the beach, and visiting her children as often as possible.

Linda Klug

Linda teaches our 3s classes at Eastus as well as develops and teaches extracurricular enrichment classes like Music and Movement and our summer classes. She enjoys being with her students and seeing how they grow and change throughout the year.

Linda holds a BS in Business Management and a MBA.  She spent quite a few years working in the marketing departments of high tech firms in the valley.  After having her two daughters, she decided that she wanted to spend more time with her children.  So she became a stay-at-home Mom and volunteered many hours in their different classrooms.

From all her volunteer work, she discovered her love for teaching and being in the classroom.  Linda is now a state licensed preschool teacher with a site director certificate and is very pleased to work for MACC Preschool, from which one of her daughters graduated.  Her oldest daughter is off to college and her younger one is in high school.   In her spare time, she enjoys reading, going to the beach, visiting with friends, and walking her dog.

Julie Lafreniere

A native of Saratoga, Julie joined MACC Preschool in 2010 as a teacher for the toddler and 3-year-olds classes.  She brings nearly 20 years of teaching and counseling experience.  She holds an AA degree in Early Childhood Education and has completed the extra units required for Program Directors through DeAnza College and Chico State University.  While pursuing her degree, Julie worked as a preschool aide and she also worked with developmentally disabled adults and at-risk teenage girls in group home settings.  She has since taught in various local preschools.

Julie considers herself a fortunate and proud teacher at MACC Preschool because she is privileged to be many children's first classroom teacher.  Her focus is not only on preschool fundamentals but also on facilitating positive growth that will carry children through all their classroom years.

Julie, her husband, Jason, and their four children live in Campbell.  All four children graduated from MACC Preschool.  When not teaching or planning lessons, Julie is often at Discovery Charter School as a working parent volunteer, the Campbell Recreation Center (either at the skate park or coaching her youngest child's soccer team), the YMCA's Camp Campbell, or the local dog park with her puppy.

Nancy Smith Newman

Nancy was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, where she earned her BS degree in Early Childhood Development. After spending her first year of marriage at the University of Illinois as a teaching assistant in their early childhood program, Nancy moved to the San Francisco Bay Area along with her husband, Marty.

After working several years for Memorex and Atari, Nancy gave birth to her first daughter, Leah. She reconnected with the world of small children by working at the Kids Too toy store, before her second daughter, Stacey, came along.

Today, Nancy is an empty-nester. Leah is living and working in San Diego.  Stacey is a recent graduate from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Nancy started teaching at MACC Preschool in 1993; she has taught both three- and four-year-olds. She is currently the lead teacher for the morning preKindergarten (4- and 5-year-olds) class.  Nancy is proud of her years at MACC and that both her daughters are graduates of the program.

Outside of the classroom, Nancy enjoys reading, yoga, Maj Jongg, walking her dog, Amena, and spending time with her family and friends.

Kim Nguyen

Kim is a recent addition to the MACC Preschool staff currently teaching the preK (4- and 5-year-olds) class. Previously, Kim taught our toddler class and the Storybook Art class during summer sessions. Kim holds a BA degree in Biological Sciences from University of California, Santa Cruz, and a MBA in Marketing.  Kim worked in the biological and high tech fields for a number of years before becoming an early childhood educator.  She was also an academic tutor emphasizing reading and writing for students in Kindergarten through high school. Kim has recently finished an early childhood supervisor/administrator course.

Kim has two children, both at Christa McAuliffe School.  In her spare time, Kim enjoys reading, baking, hiking, and spending time with her family.

Julie Schindler

Julie Schindler has been working with children since 2000.  She got her start working for the Moreland School District in their JumpStart Reading program, Homework Center, and lunch coordination.  She then spent over 3 years working with special education preschool children for the Moreland School District before joining MACC Preschool in September 2006. She is currently a teacher in the preK (4- and 5-year-olds) classes, and develops and teaches extracurricular enrichment classes for preschoolers and Kindergartners at our Eastus campus.

Julie holds a BS degree in Computer Science with a minor in Business Administration; she was a software engineer with Hewlett-Packard in Palo Alto for over 15 years.  However, Julie is proud to have gone back to school to complete all of the necessary ECE units to be a preschool teacher for MACC where she feels she can truly make a difference.

Julie grew up in Novato but has lived in San Jose since 1982, so she considers this her home.  She has two grown daughters, Alexandra and Stephanie, who can still manage to keep her busy (but in a good way) as they pursue their own endeavors.  When Julie has time, she loves to read, work in her garden, and watch movies.
