Nancy Smith Newman
Nancy was born and raised down south in Memphis, Tennessee where she earmed her B.S. in Early Childhood Development. After spending her first year of marriage at the University of Illinois as a teaching assistant in their early childhood program, Nancy moved to the San Francisco Bay area along with her husband, Marty.
After working several years for Memorex and Atari, Nancy gave birth to her first daughter, Leah. She reconnected with the world of small children by working at the Kids Too toy store, before her second daughter, Stacey, came along.
Today, Nancy is an empty-nester. Leah is living and working (hopefully temporarily) in Washington D.C., while Stacey is attending college at the University of California at Santa Barbara.
Nancy is starting her fourteenth year with Moreland Area Community Centers Preschool, where she has taught both three and four year olds. She is currently a teacher in the morning four's class and lead teacher in the afternoon four's program. Nancy is proud of her years at MACC and that both her daughters are graduates of the program.
Outside of the classroom, Nancy enjoys reading, yoga, Maj Jongg, walking her dog Rusty, and spending time with her family.
Julie Schindler
Julie is in her second year as a teacher with MACC Preschool and in her fifth year working with preschool children. Currently, she is a teacher in the morning four's class and morning three's program. Prior to joining MACC, she taught in the Special Education Department of the Moreland School District at the preschool level. Also, she worked at the elementary school level in various Moreland programs such as the JumpStart Reading program, the lunch program and in the Homework Center.
Julie holds a B.S. in Computer Science with a Minor in Business Administration. After a fifteen year career as a Software Engineer with Hewlett-Packard in Palo Alto, and being a Mom to two wonderful daughters, she decided to seek a profession working with children which gives her great pleasure and is a welcome alternative to working with computers!
Julie grew up in the North Bay city of Novato, but has lived in San Jose for twenty-five years ( and in West San Jose for the last eleven years). Her oldest daughter, Alexandra, is seventeen and a senior at Prospect High School. Her younger daughter, Stephanie, is thirteen and in the 8th grade at Moreland Middle School. When Julie is not working or doing the "Mom" thing, she and her daughters love to ride bikes, scooter around the neighborhood and watch movies.
