The MACC Preschool preK enrichment class presents 4- and 5-year-olds with challenge opportunities to extend preK curriculum subjects through hands-on, project-oriented activities. Children explore math, science, literature, and the arts in a more interactive setting.
Some sample experiences and learning objectives are described below.
Dinosaurs & Volcanoes
In this unit, the child will
- engage in sponge painting, finger painting, tissue papier mache, and crayon rubbing to collaboratively create a classroom volcano, its rocky ground, spewing lava, and the cloudy sky overhead with his/her classmates;
- construct an individual volcanoe and dinosaur;
- and witness a volcanic eruption!
Our Bodies & Nutrition
During this unit children will
- learn what our hearts look like and what they do; they will also experience their hearts beating faster with exercise;
- learn about our teeth and how to care for them by making toothpaste and brushing a giant's teeth!
- and learn the 6 food groups with each tied to a letter, color, and sorting activities.
