Monthly Theme

The themes we will be working on this month are what April showers bring, the United States of America and house address and phone numbers. For science, we are learning about our senses and exploring different sights, smells, sounds, tastes and tactile materials. We have discussed the planets, the continents and now we will tour the United States. Please tell your child the name of the state in which he or she was born so we can mark it on our board. Our easel art will be free painting with outside painting as weather permits. We will also be bringing out the water table and spray art bottles. Other art projects will include painting with spices and self-portraits. Our cooking segment will be a tasting experience.

We have worked long and hard on our Zoo-Phonics program. We are now starting to sound out words using our ‘connectors’ and ‘building blocks.’ We will also focus on capital and lower case letter recognition and will practice writing the letters. We will continue to focus on number recognition as well. Cutting and pencil grip are still skills we would like to enhance. A good pair of appropriately sized Fiskar scissors would be a great investment. Also a triangular rubber pencil grip will help those little fingers hold onto the pencil more easily.
