Preschool Programs at our Eastus Campus

3-year-old Classes

This play-based program is designed to provide a welcoming and safe indoor and outdoor atmosphere for the first-time student. Our focus is on helping children develop good social skills, good listening skills, and a cooperative and sharing attitude, while fostering a positive self-esteem. Throughout the year, class sessions will provide exposure to many art media, language experiences, music, movement, and science experiments. Colors, numbers, shapes, and the alphabet are introduced in an encouraging and playful way.

Class options include MWF and T/Th morning classes.  Extend the preschool experience with our Lunch Bunch option: children bring their lunch and enjoy another supervised hour of socialization, including outdoor play, and a meal with their classmates and teachers. Lunch Bunch is available to add to both the MWF and T/Th 3-year-old classes at Eastus. You may add it to as few as one day per week or as many as five days per week at any time during the school year by prearrangement with the Coordinator, Ruth Smay, for a monthly fee.

PreKindergarten (4- and 5-year-olds)

This program focuses on play-based activities as well as Kindergarten readiness. Our balanced curriculum introduces handwriting basics, reading readiness, and number concepts. It also offers activities in math, science, language, and the arts. Additionally our curriculum introduces phonemic awareness through Zoo-Phonics. This is a kinesthetic method for teaching alphabet sounds, letter recognition, and pre-reading skills.

We leave campus for field trips several times during the year to extend the classroom experience. We also explore the performing arts by preparing two vocal performances during the school year. We encourage independence and responsibility. The preKindergarten program is a complete educational experience that prepares the child for Kindergarten success.

Classes are available on MWF mornings and afternoons.

PreKindergarten Enrichment (4- and 5-year-olds)

Our preK Enrichment class is designed to offer challenge opportunities.  Children will explore math, science, literature, and the arts through hands-on, project-oriented activities.  This class takes our preK curriculum subjects and expands upon them over a week to a month through child participation, imagination, and exploration.  Subjects explored in depth include our solar system; dinosaurs & volcanoes; our bodies & nutrition; and more!  This class introduces rhyming words, sequencing, and one-to-one correspondence.  Please click here to view some sample experiences and more learning objectives. This class augments the MWF preK class well for the child who is ready for more.

PreK Enrichment class is available T/Th mornings.

PreKinder PLUS (4- and 5-year-olds)

Designed for the student and/or family who desires a longer day, PreKinder PLUS adds an hour of lunch and an extra hour of curriculum following the traditional 3-hour PreK class on MWF mornings and/or the 3-hour PreK Enrichment class on T/Th.  Children bring their lunch to eat with their classmates and teachers as well as enjoy more supervised outdoor and indoor play.  Following the lunch hour, students enjoy extra hands-on experiences in art, math, science, music, movement, and other subjects at the discretion of the teachers.  Topics vary daily.

PreKinder PLUS is available MWF and/or T/Th.

Toddler Classes (ages 18 months to 3 years)

In these classes, children enjoy songs, indoor and outdoor play, and simple art exploration in a warm, small group setting.  This is a great first classroom experience for your child.  Parent participation is required. Activities are offered for older siblings for a modest materials fee.

Tot Time is available MW in the afternoon, quarterly.  Click here for more information and a Tot Time registration form.
