Eastus January Newsletter 2008

The themes we will be working on this month are winter, ice, snow, new beginnings, and dinosaurs.

JANUARY 2008 Dates to Remember:

Jan. 18 De Anza Planetarium field trip*

Jan. 21 No School – Martin Luther King Birthday

Jan. 25 No School – Open House and Teacher Work Day

 

For science we will experiment with hot and cold, look at rocks and pine cones and learn about arctic wildlife and hibernation. We will begin to focus on number recognition and will introduce one-to-one correspondence. Our easel art will include large mittens and snowmen. We’ll also melt crayons and paint with ice. Our literature will include penguins, Eskimos, birds and bears. Our cooking project will be chicken soup with rice. In the skills department, we will practice getting our jackets, zipping and snapping.We are progressing in our phonics program and will begin playing games to reinforce their knowledge.

Jan. 14 PeeWee Penguin

Jan. 28 Queenie Quail

 

 

** Both AM and PM classes will be combined for this event. The morning class will meet at our regular hour (8:30 AM) until 10:45. We will need you to pick up your child and transport him/her to De Anza Planetarium. We will attend the 11:30 AM show. The planetarium has just been remodeled and we will be viewing a new program. We are very excited about this event! The cost is $4.50 per person. Please sign up and pay in advance so that we have a proper head count for the show.
